Curious

Susanna Edwards has had a long-standing interest in how technological advancements have affected creative practice. Six years ago she happened upon a collection of 19th century biological microscopic slides in a charity shop. Intrigued she researched their history, her investigations revealing a shift from craft to digital in the techniques for creating, viewing and documenting such slides. Out of these investigations came the idea for Curious, a project which demonstrates, through a series of photographic based art works, the way developments in technology have augmented shifts in the visual world and the advantages and problems which have resulted.

In the capacity of artist, tutor, facilitator and manager Susanna Edwards has worked on projects ranging from commercial print for clients including Paul Smith, Selfridges and Grafik magazine to exhibitions for Tate Britain and The Museum of London through a series of collaborations with the writer Iain Sinclair. Her work combines traditional hands-on methods such as letterpress and printmaking with new technologies and digital practices, which combined with an emphasis on content and creativity offers a refreshing approach within art, design, research and art-direction. She is currently a Visiting Research Fellow at London Metropolitan University.
