Extreme lateral thinking

This talk is about how patterns of daily life and the built environment can inform design. Extreme lateral thinking is a way of working that exposes connections that may be hidden by conventions of language and culture and by the traditional boundarieas of theory and practice. Examples of this approach will include a look at the ‘kinetics of book design’ and alternative applications of information design to life patterns and the urban landscape.

Katherine works as a consultant designer and writer in London, and teaches at the Department of Typography & Graphic Communication in Reading. She is originally from Ottawa, Canada. She has recently managed to grow eight chili pepper plants from seed, and would appreciate some good chili-intensive recipes.
