Artist and designer Jake Tilson will talk about his first cookbook 'A Tale of 12 Kitchens'. As author, photographer, designer, typographer and cook he takes a personal and sideways look at food, its context, the way it is grown, packaged, bought and cooked and the memories and emotions it evokes. His talk will focus on the non-recipe elements of the project.
Jake Tilson is an artist, graphic designer, publisher and cook. He has produced magazines conceived as collaborative artworks, notably Cipher and Atlas. In 1994 he unwittingly became a web pioneer when his web site, TheCooker, opened to wide acclaim. His recent cookbook was nominated for both the Andre Simon Award and Glenfiddich Award, and won the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards.
"Tilson travels the world in search of the unremarkable, his focus veers
away from the centre of the spectacle, fixing firmly on its edges, parts of
the environment that we delete from our vision every day. His work
celebrates the survival of the particular in the face of generic."
