Emotive inspiration; finding type in the oddest places

‘Where do you get your ideas from?’ is a question I am often asked and one not deserving a simplistic answer. From the beginnings of projects I’ll show the variety of sources that inspire me with my type design. And while the sources of inspiration may be far from evident in the final types, it is interesting to reflect on their role in originating the creative process.

Jeremy Tankard is an independent type designer from the UK who has quickly gained a worldwide reputation for his high quality and unique designs, which include the type families Bliss, Enigma, Shaker, and Kingfisher as well as commissioned typefaces for Christchurch Art Gallery, Sheffield City, Adobe Systems and the Microsoft Corporation.
